Who We Are

Nudlaghi Leadership Institute is a nonprofit grounded in Indigenous values and shaped by the land, cultures, and communities of Alaska. Our work is guided by Village values—relationship, reciprocity, humility, and care for the land—and by the belief that leadership in Alaska must grow from the people and places most connected to it.

We bring together leaders from across the state to learn from one another and from the land itself. Through place‑based experiences, dialogue, and shared responsibility, we help grow the next generation of leaders who are grounded in community, connected across regions, and committed to Alaska’s future.

Whether we are hosting leadership programming in Lake Clark National Park or guiding funders through Alaska’s communities, our focus remains the same: strengthening Alaska by centering Indigenous knowledge, honoring local voices, and building relationships that last.

Our  Values

Unity — Work with a spirit of cooperation to build a prosperous future; Integrity — being honest and ethical, living our purpose and core values with the courage to do what is right; Heritage — honoring our history and tradition

Executive Director

Jeff Baird moved to Alaska in 2008 for what was meant to be a one‑year judicial clerkship in Bethel and never left. He has a background in journalism and law and spent twelve years at the Rasmuson Foundation, including as Chief of Staff. Jeff now leads the Nudlaghi Leadership Institute as Executive Director and serves on the board of Catholic Social Services. He and his wife, Stefanie, enjoy hiking, fishing, gardening, and doting on their two rescue dogs.
